This lecture covers the basic issues associated with roads and road kill. While there are many ecological impacts caused by roads, road kill is the most obvious factor and the easiest one to quantify. Here we discuss the proper context for thinking about road kill. This serves as the first introduction for my students enrolled in ESRM 313: Conservation Biology at CSU Channel Islands. All of my lectures are downloadable as free podcasts. This and other lectures can be found at my iTunesU site: itunes.apple.com
